Holi - Festival of Colours
Holi - Spring Festival of Hindus
Holi is celebrated all over North India.
It's also known as "Festival of Colours" because family & friends apply coloured water & powders.
In Hindu Mythology, there are three stories behind "Holi".
Holi is associated with the immortal love between Lord Krishana & Radha.Lord Krishna asked his mother Yashoda why he's dark in colour & his beloved Radha fair.So Yeshoda adviced him to apply colours on Radha to change her complexion. So mischievous Krishna splashes coloured water on Radha & her maids. Famous 18 th century painting of Holi celebration in Vrindavan is in Guimet Museum in Paris.
Kamadeva wanted to help Parvathi to marry Lord Shiva.
So he came before Lord Shiva as beautiful nymph to disrupt his meditation.Lord Shiva opened his third eye & Kamadeva was turned into ashes.
Demon King Hiranyakashyap forced his subjects to worship him.
But his son Prahlad denied & worshipped Lord Vishnu.
So whenever the arrogant king tries to kill Prahlad, Lord Vishnu protects his ardent devotee.
Once he asked his sister Holika to enter a blazing fire with Prahlad.
Holika was burnt to death & Prahlad was protected by Lord.
So Holika asked Prahlad to remember her every year & that's the " Holi Day".
