Puli Inchi - Kerala Onam Special

Ingredients
35g ginger
1 green chilli
1 tsp chilli powder
1/4 asafoetida powder (hing)
1/4 tsp fenugreek powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
1 cube jaggerry
Lemon size tamarind pulp
For seasoning
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 dried red chilli
Curry leaves
Method
Skin & chop ginger into small cubes & coarsely blend it.
Soak tamarind in water & keep aside for 10 min.Extract the juice.
Heat oil in a sauce pan.
Splutter mustard seeds,dried chilli & curry leaves
Fry chopped ginger till light golden brown.
Add chopped green chilli & fry again.
Add all the powders & stir so that all are well mixed with ginger.
Add tamarind extract , jagerry & salt.
Cook in low flame until the sauce is reduced.
Garnish with fresh curry leaves .
Serve this tangy sauce with rice.

This is an important side dish served for Onam Sadya - traditional feast of Kerala
