Thiruvalluvar Statue


thi1Thiruvalluvar was a famous Tamil philosopher-poet who lived 30 yrs before Jesus Christ. He is the author of Thirukkural - a masterpiece in Tamil literature. It is written in couplets that explains the various aspects of life.
The huge statue of Thiruvalluvar is erected in Kanyakumari on Jan 1st 2000. This statue rests on 11.5m pedestal that represents 38 chapters of Virtues Thirukkural. This was sculpted by Dr V. Ganapathi  & the rocks used came from neighbouring places - Sirudhamoor, Pattumalaikuppam Hills & Ambhasamudram Hills. The height,133ft 
denotes the 133 chapters of Thirukkural & the 3 fingers denotes the 3 themes - Moral, Wealth & Love ( Aram, Porul & Inbam).  For 2004 Tsunami, the giant waves reached upto the shoulder of this statue. Now a days tourists are not allowed to visit this rock.
