Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria


Barcelona's Bouqueria market is the largest indoor market in Europe.This is located in the busy street of Las Ramblas. This market was started in 1217 to sell meat. Later they started selling pigs and was popularly known as Mercat Bornet. Then it was renamed as Mercat de la Palla. The expansion began in 1840 under the guidance of the architect Mas Vilà & was inaugurated in 1853. The metal roof was constructed in 1914. Now this colorful & exciting market is called the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria. The display of  colorful fruits, vegetables, eggs, fish & meat is magnificent. Fresh smoothies & fruit salads are available. Several tapas bars are there to greet you.
