BiarritzBiarritz is the popular summer resort on the Atlantic coast of south west France. It's about 22 km from Spain. This small fishing village was the holiday spot of Napoleon III & Empress Eugenie. They built a summer palace in 1854. Later it became a popular summer resort of European Royals & Intellectuals. Emile Zola & Ernest Hemmingway spent their summer here. Eugenie's Palace beacame the Hotel du Palais in 1893 & now a luxurious hotel.
Basque Coast is famous for its cliffs, rocks cut, sandy beaches & giant waves. It's one of the surf capitals of Europe. Biarritz Surf Festival is held in July which attracts world wide surfers. The popular beaches are Miramar, La Grande Plage, La Cote des Basques, Le Port Vieux, Marbella & Milady. Today this chic town on the Bay of Biscay ( Golfe de Gascogne) is an important touristique destination & a surfer's paradise.
