Vasco da Gama Bridge
The Ponte Vasco da Gama is the longest road bridge(17.2 km) in Europe. This 6 lane cable-stayed bridge was designed by Armando Rito. It connects Lisbon to the southern part of Portugal by crossing the Tangus River. This was inaugurated on 29th Mar '98 for the Lisbon Expo 1998 World fair. The bridge was named "Ponte Vasco da Gama" to honour the explorer & to celebrate his 500th anniversary of discovering the direct sea route to India.
