Cabo Da Roca
Cabo Da Roca is the western most tip of Portugal & the Continental Europe. It is located in the Sintra -Cascais Natural Park & is 144 ft above sea level. This is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. A Crucifix Monument was erected in the middle with the insciption of longitude, latitude & a verse of a 16th centuary Portuguese Poet Luís Vaz de Camões "Onde a terra termina e o mar começa" ( where the land ends and the sea begins). The right side of the monument is the Lighthouse of Cabo Da Roca & the left side is the westernmost tip of Continental Europe. The lighthouse was built in 1758 & is said to be the the first one in Portugal. The whole area is carpeted with hottentot fig (carpobrotus edulis). The panoramic views of the cliifs & the Atlantic Ocean are really stunning!!
