1 cup yellow split green gram (Moong dal)
Half cup freshly grated coconut
3 shallots (chopped)
An onion (chopped)
2 green chillies (chopped)
A piece of ginger (chopped)
2 springs of curry leaves / coriander leaves ( chopped)
An egg (optional)
2 tbsp gram flour
A pinch of Asafoetida Powder (Hing)
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Soak dal in water for five hours.
Drain it & leave aside to dry.
Keep a spoonfull of dal aside.
Coarsely grind dal with all other ingredients in a blender.
Add gram flour, egg, salt, hing & chopped curry leaves.
Mix well & fry immediately
Heat oil in a frying pan & spoon the prepared mix.
Cook both sides of the vada's until golden brown.
Remove using a slotted spoon & drain on a kitchen paper.
U can prepare 4/5 vada's at the same time .
Serve hot with tea or as a starter.
