2 cups yellow split dal (kadala parippu)
3 shallots (chopped)
An onion (chopped)
2 green chillies (chopped)
2 tsp chopped ginger
2 pinches of Asafoetida Powder (Hing)
A bunch of purslane (chopped)
2 springs of curry leaves / coriander leaves ( chopped)
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Soak dal in water for five hours.
Drain it & leave aside to dry.
Keep a spoonfull of dal aside.
Coarsely grind dal with chillies & ginger in a blender.
Then add chopped onions, purslane & curry leaves along with salt & hing.
Mix well & fry immediately
Make lemon sized dough balls & flatten into a disc.
Heat oil in a frying pan.
Cook both sides of the vada's until golden brown.
Remove using a slotted spoon & drain on a kitchen paper.
U can prepare 4/5 vada's at the same time .
Serve hot with tea or as a starter.
