Kiri Hodi - Srilankan Onion Curry
Ingredients
3 tbsp veg oil
1 cinnamon stick
2 cloves
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
1/2 tsp fennel seeds

1 pandan leaf (optional)
Few curry leaves
2 onions (sliced)
2 geen chillies (half slit)
A tomato (sliced)
A piece of ginger (chopped)
2 cloves of garlic (chopped)
Salt to taste

1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp rice powder
100ml coconut milk / liquid cream
A pinch of garam masala (optional)
Method
Heat oil in a pan & add spices .
Splutter the seeds (mustard, fenugreek & fennel).
Add sliced onions & fry till light golden brown.
Then add ginger , garlic , green chilli & leaves (curry & pandan)
Fry for a while &then add turmeric powder , salt & rice powder
Add sliced tomatoes & add a cup of water.
Simmer & cook for 10mn.
Remove from fire, add coconut milk & mix well;
Garnish with garam masala & some more curry leaves
Serve with string hoppers or any type of breads.
