Gâteau Ardéchois

Feast of Epiphany/Little Christmas

Feast of Epiphany / Little Christmas Fête des Rois (Festival of Kings) is celebrated in the month of January (Jan 6th) to honour the three wise men coming to see the infant Jesus . For this feast, French prepare their famous pastry Galette des Rois / King's Cake. A fava bean is hidden inside the galette before baking. Now a days a small china figurine called "fêve" is used. Tarte des demoiselles Tatin

French greets autumn season by preparing their famous " Tart Tatin".It's just an upside down Apple Tart.There is a legend behind this desert.Two spinster sisters Stéphanie & Caroline inherited their father's hotel in Lamotte-Beuvron.Caroline Tatin greeted the clients & Stéphanie Tatin managed the cuisine.Their apple tarts were famous for it's flavour & texture.During a busy hunting season Stéphanie fogot to cover the tart tin with the flaky pastry. Cantaloupe Custurd Pie

Cantaloupe Custurd Pie Ingredients1 frozen pastry 1 cantaloupe30g custurd powder60 g sugar1/2 l milk 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon1 tbsp confectioners sugar Almonds & sultanas for decoration Method. Wash cantaloupe. Peel, seed, and cut  in chunks.Dilute 30g of custurd powder in cup of milk(without any lumps).Boil  milk. Add 60g sugar. Then add the custurd powder mixture. Stir continously.
