Montpellier-le-Vieux

Montpellier-le-Vieux

Whole area is surrounded by fantastic rocks which look like ruins. Water and wind have sculptured the grey stone of the Black Limestone plateau to unusual universe of cliffs in the strange forms. Gate like rock structutre is called " Porte de Mycenes".
In the pre-historical period the rocks of Montpellier-le-Vieux were used by animals and probably also by men as natural shelter. Some bones of Ursus Speleus were discovered in a cave of the Cirque de La Millière, which proves that the site was already formed in these ancient times. It's a private property of about 120 hectares. There is a small train "petit train" to visit the whole area.
