This Romano-Byzantine-style church is situated on the top of Garde hill - highest point in Marseille. (154 m)  From the top, one can get a spectacular views around Marseille.The gliterring bronze statue of the Virgin & Child is seen far from the sea & is a landmark for sailors.Marseillais believes that they are protected by their "Bonne Mère" - Lady of the Guard .
For Chandeleur, Marseillais buy Navettes blessed by their  "Bonne Mère".
These boat shaped cookies are prepared by "Four Navettes"- the oldest bakery in Marseille founded in 1781

Le Palais Longchamp - Marseille.

Le Palais Longchamp / Longchamps Palace (1862-69)

In XIX th century, Marseille town experienced water shortage .Palais_longchamps
So the civil engineers of Ponts et chaussées (Prestigious college of Civil Engineering- Paris) constructed  a new canal from the Durance river to Marseille. To celebrate this event, Henri Espérandieu constructed this luxury palace. Now the left wing of the palace houses the Fine Arts Museum & the right wing the Natural History Museum. Behind this palace there's a garden from where we can get a view of the Marseille town.
