Pidi - Spicy Rice Balls in Coconut Milk
Ingredients
1 cup freshly grated coconut
2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp salt
1 green chilli (optional)
3 shallots
Curry leaves

2 cups rice powder
1/2 semolina
Salt to taste
1 cup coconut milk
Temper
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 dried chilli
A spring of curry leaves
Method
Coarsely grind coconut, shallots, curry leaves , chilli & cumin seeds in a blender.
Mix it with rice & semolina & mix well.
Cover & keep aside for an hour.
Boil water with salt .
Add water little by little to get a thick dough.
Knead well & keep aside & make berry sized balls.

Boil water in a skillet & add the prepared balls .
When cooked , add a cup of coconut milk & stir.
Remove from fire.

Heat oil in a pan.
Splutter mustard seeds & then add dried chilli along with curry leaves.
Add this to the prepared pidi & mix well.
Serve this with veg/non veg curry.
Pidi is prepared by Syrian Christian Community in Kerala for Christmas.
