Mackerel Masala Curry
Ingredients
500 g mackerel or any other fish
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
* Masala*
1 cup freshly grated coconut /dessicated coconut
2 shallots (sliced)
A pinch of fenugreek seeds
5 black pepper corns
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Few curry leaves (optional)

Tamarind (lemon size) / 2 pieces of malabar tamarind (kokum)
2 shallots(sliced)
A tomato(sliced)
3 green chillies (half slit)
A piece of ginger (grated)
3 garlic cloves( thinly sliced)
Salt to taste
Coconut Oil for frying

1 tbsp coconut oil
Curry leaves
Method
Dry roast all the masala ingredients & then grind to fine powder.
In a bowl of water soak tamarind & keep aside.

Wash fish & blot dry with kitchen paper.
Marinate fish with chilli, tumeric & salt.
Heat oil in a pan & fry them till light brown.

Heat oil in sauce pan & fry shallots till translucent.
Add ginger- garlic paste along with green chilli & curry leaves.
Then add the masala powder & mix well.
Add chopped tomatoes & stir for another 2mn.
Add tamarind water. (discard the pulp), cover & cook for 5mn.
When done, add fried fish & mix well.
Cover & cook for another 3mn.
Remove from fire & garnish with curry leaves and coconut oil.
